James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1892
1 3 6 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' ANNUAL, WESTMINSTERELEVENIN 1891 .-*H. R. Blaker (Captain ) : Has been very disappointing ; his batting showed a lamentable falling off from last year, and he hardly played any good innings ; has great hitting powers , but his weak defence prevents him using themmuch; has been a keen and energetic captain and good field . *J. O. T. Powell : Avery good left -hand bowler with plenty of break either way; was extremely useful on a sticky wicket ; his batting also showeda great improvementandhehas a sounddefence. J. S. Shearme: W a s very useful both at batting and bowling, on a fast wicket his bowling is very good and he was especially successful against Charterhouse ; in batting he was rather uncertain , but played some good innings in pretty style . *G. E. S. Campbell : One of the best and most stylish batsmen in the eleven , with very good, strokes off his legs ; played very well on several occasions and also bowleda little . E. Berens : Thebest bowler in the team; bowls left -handed and keeps a very good length ; bore the brunt of the bowling all the season ; a good bat, butis too small to have muchhitting power. F. B. Sherring : Hasgot the best bat- ting average ; madea great manyruns and several times saved the eleven from disgrace ; hehas considerable hitting powerand plays with a good straight bat ; a fair wicket -keeper , but wants practice . *C. T. Agar: A nextremely patient player with wonderfully good defence ; he lacks hitting power, but is athorough " stonewaller " ; should develop into a first -class cricketer ; his best innings was against Charterhouse . *E. Burton : Can hit hard, but has no defence what- ever; canbowl a little , but is erratic ; a fair field . * W. Barwell : A poor bat and is unreliable ; hardly deserved his place in the eleven , but was decidedly unlucky. D. Fitzmaurice : A fair , though lucky bowler , with considerable leg break ; with practice should makea useful bat ; fields well and is a safe catch . *A. W. F. Guy: A lucky batsman and hits very well , but has poor defence ; a lazy field . M. E. Fevez ; A splendid field and returns well, but has no idea of batting ; can bowl a little .
