Rutty: Has captained the team with success ; a fine bat , with strong defence ; can hit hard all round , being especially good on the leg side ; with Lambert has saved his side on many occasions ; not so successful with the ball this year owing to the hard wickets ; a very safe catch . W. J. Lambert : Afirst -class bat, with untiring defence , and punishes the loose bowling with freedom ; has met with fair success as a bowler, having a good break from the off , and has often parted batsmen whenwell set ; a splendid field anywhere. H. C. Buckmaster : Owing to accident has been muchhandicapped this year ; has the making of a fair wicket -keep, but has not comeon much as a batsman . *G. M. Carey : A good fast bowler , slightly erratic at times , altering his pace with judgment; as a batsman can hit hard, and on his day scores freely ; smart field . *W. H. Randolph : Has hardly done aswell as was expected , but at the end of the season showed very good form withtaking style ; fair field . *T. C. Rogerson : Has improved wonderfully as a bat; canbowl very straight , keeping an excellent length , but has not metwith the success he deserved ; a very safe catch anywhere. H. H. Joy : A really good left -hand medium-paced bowler , with a very deceptive action ; as he will b ein the eleven three more years he should undoubtedly become first -class ; a fair bat, hitting hard at times ; safe catch . *F. B. L. Maunsell : Avery patient bat; at first was handicapped through ill -health , but latterly improved con- siderably , and did his side good service ; slow in the field . P. D. Hunter : A rather disappointing left -hand bowler, with a good delivery , but not sufficient commandover the pitch ; shows promise as a batsman, with free style ; tries hard in the field . T. N. Atkinson : A fair left -hand bat with great reach ; has a 1 0
