Hallward : Bats in very taking style ; un- certain for the first few overs , scores rapidly whenset , but has a weakstroke off his legs ; an excellent field anywhere ; a good captain ; wonthe average bat . *J. B. Wood: Has a good defence andhits very hard on the leg side ; heshould check the tendency to put his leg in front of the wicket ; brilliant field at cover . S. W. Rix: Arun-getting bat, with plenty of dash ; muchimproved latterly ; a useful field and , as a lob bowler , invaluable to the eleven . E. Slocock : Apeculiar , but extremely useful bat ; has played consistently throughout the season , guiding the ball with great skill through the slips ; a much improved wicket -keeper, stumping excellently . E. O. Foster : Shows great promise as a bat , with strong defence, and a considerable punishing power; a safe field anywhere. *C. W . Whitaker : Aslow left -handbowler ; owing to illness , has hardly fulfilled the promise of last season ; as a rule he keeps a good length , changing his pace with judgment ; as a bat, hits vigorously at times , *P.
