Smyth (Captain ) : B yfar the best bat in the team, possibly one of the best school bats of the year , though he took some time getting rid of golf strokes at the beginning of the season ; a very fair field at cover ,butnotcertain , andinclined to get too close in . C. C. Barnes : Played only seldom until after the armyexamination ; did not come on much, being too inclined to hit to be considered sound ; a poor field , owing to short sight . *V. Shea : A dashing , hard -hitting bat , much improved in defence ; especially dangerous on a slow wicket ; a little weak on the leg stump ; a plucky wicket- keeper ,but slow . L. W. Reynolds : Asound , safe bat , with plenty of,pluck , rarely failed to score ; a very useful change -bowler , medium fast ; a fair field , but slow at moving to the ball . *R. B.
