Wainwright (captain ) : Madean ex- cellent captain ; fine hard-hitting bat, with a splendid eye ; was considerably above the average of college wicket -keepers . C. L. S. Elwell (secretary ) : Batted consistently throughout the year ; gets all his runs behind the wickets ; fair fast bowler and good field , both at point and in the country . M. A. Edwards : A goodbat, though a trifle unsteady at starting ; came out rather unexpectedly as a bowler this year ; good point . F. E. F. Jones : Fell off considerably in his batting this year ; good fast bowler, and the best field in the team. C. C. Lem- priere : Although he played one good innings early in the season , seemed utterly out of form with the bat ; brilliant field , but is rather too fond of going to sleep . P. B. Allen : Bats in very taking style ; somewhat slow in the field . T. H. Hayes: Slow bat ; fell off disappointingly towards the end of the season ; poor field . F. P. Long : Has a good eye, andhits hard, but with little defence ; safe catch , but otherwise slow in the field . W. L. Donaldson : On his day perhaps thebest bowler in the team, but varied very much; should give up his slow ball , whichwas a failure ; useful bat at the end of an innings ; poor field . H. J. Tiffen : Does not makeenough use of his immense reach ; poor field . A. G. H. Gurney: Lamentably out of form the whole season ; poor catch , but otherwise a fair field at cover-point.
