Bassett (Private and St. Catharine's ) : Amedium-pace left -handed bowler ; can keep up an end well ; has not yet learnt to stand up to his wicket , though he gets runs ; moderate field . A. J. Boger (Winchester and Magdalen) : A plucky bat ; got runs several times whenthey werewanted ; good field , and his slow bowling gets wickets sometimes . G. F. H. Berkeley (Wellington and Keble ): A very good left -handed slow bowler , withanatural curl in the air , particularly puzzling to anyone playing himfor the first time ; moderate field and bat. W.H. Brain (Clifton and Oriel ) : Kept wicket well during the early part of the season , but his hands would not stand Smith's fast bowling ; improving bat, with a nice style . T. B. Case (Winchester andMagdalen) : Avery steady bat, with a good stroke on the off -side ; has rather toomuchrespect for first -class bowling ; asafe field . M.R. Jardine (Fettes and Balliol , captain ) : Played some good innings , and when set a very hard manto get out,particularly on slow ground ; a brilliant field anywhere , with a beautiful return . W. D. Llewelyn (Eton and N e w) : A dangerous bat ; hits well all round; excellent field ; active and keen ; was unfortunate in being run out several times . L. C. H. Palairet (Repton and Oriel ) : A fine free bat ; played well all through the season , but particularly for his county ; ought to be a great source of strength to Oxford next season ; verygood field . E. Smith (Clifton andUniversity ): Afirst -class cricketer ; amostdangerous bat ; no one whosaw it will forget the innings he played against Martin, Attewell , and Ferris , on a bowler's wicket ; good fast bowler, andsplendid field . H. D. Watson (Harrow and Balliol ) : Has very much improved in his batting ; scored double figures consistently ; a poor field . G. L. Wilson (Brighton and Hertford ) : Batted this yearmoreinhis school form; played a very good innings in the 'Varsity match; goodout-field , and occasionally gets wickets .
