Sherwin'sNottsEleven, Bradford, July 20, 21 , and 22. This matchhadbeen arranged to fill the blank caused by the abandonment of the All America Team. With the exception , too , of Lord Hawkeand Mr. J. A. Dixon , the two elevens were thoroughly representative of Notts and York- shire . The principal weakness was in bowling ,and in this respect Hall's side had aslight advantage . Some splendid batting wasshown on the first day for the latter by Peel (150 ), Ulyett (67), and Wainwright (50). Peel's success was very popular ; he and Ulyett maderuns at a great rate , and his long innings contained no actual chance . Sherwin's side responded with a total of 345, for which , however , they were largely indebted to two men-Shrewsbury and Barnes . The former eclipsed Peel's performance , for going in first he carried his bat through the entire innings for 151-a magnificent innings , which took him nearly five hours and a half . Barnes also hit brilliantly for his 68. Some
