Brain and Page, and W o o f, three newplayers madetheir first appearance in county cricket -M r. R. W .Rice, of Tewkesbury(whohad shown good form in the Colts ' match), Mr. H .H. Francis , and a professional namedGreenway, from Clifton . Mr. Francis madea very satisfactory débût , scoring 33 and(not out) 18 ; his stand with Mr. Cranston in the first innings realized 113 runs . The latter played a splendid innings of 101, in which he gave only one chance , whenhe had got 26; but in the second " hands " no one stayed long save Mr. Radcliffe , whomade61 by free hitting . Thestand by Lee (67) and Ulyett (107 ) fairly wonthe match for York- shire . Ulyett got his runs in eighty minutes, and hadone life . Yorkshire won b yeight wickets . Three days of close and interesting cricket . Gloucestershire , who were withoutMessrs . Puilen , Brain, Page, and Townsend, played two newamateurs inMessrs. Brown, of Bedminster , and DeWinton, of the Clifton Club. Glouces- tershire wouldhave fared badly indeed but for two men-M r. W. G. Grace (109 not out and 37) andPainter (46 and 83). Mr. Grace performed the rare feat of carrying his bat through the innings , andhis first score -in which he madebut one mistake , a difficult chance to short -slip -was well worthy of his reputation . K e n ttook full advantage of a good wicket to punish the weakbowling freely , the chief scorers being Mr. L. Wilson (86 and 13), Mr. C. J. Fox(58 and22), Mr. Daffen (52 and 18), and G. G. Hearne (22 and 38 not out). Martin bowled
