Smith (22) scored more than half the runs got from the bat. Cambridge managedto double their opponents ' score , though they were indebted mainly to two players -Jackson (23) and Foley (26). A tone time half the wickets were downfor 90 ; but whenThesiger went on to bowl, he proved so effective that the innings was finished off for the addi- tion of seven runs . Oxford were 55 behind , a deficit which was wiped off by Jardine and Wilson on the fall of the second wicket ; and although this early promise was not sustained , the total reached 108, thanks to some good hitting byBradby. Thehopes of the Oxonians rose high whenCambridge, wanting 54 to win, lost Douglas, Jackson, and McGregor for comparatively few runs . good cricket of Ford, however, soon placed it beyond all doubt, and Cambridge wereleft victorious b ysevenwickets.
