B yadopting this methodRacquets canbe strung muchtighter than bythe old system , andarealso far less liable to relax , while the strain is better distributed round the circum- ference of the hoop. This system of stringing of course adds somewhatto the first cost of the Racquet, as more gut and extra labour are required , but the results obtained well repay the extra cost,andeffect a saving inthe long run, inaddition to producing a muchmoreeffective Racquet. J. L. F. &Co. have lately introduced into some of their best Racquets animprovement of muchvalue, consisting of a solid cane,walnut, or other hard-woodhandle spliced into the ash (after themannerof a cricket bathandle) andturnedto acomfortablepattern withabuttonat theend.
