Goingin first each time, he was in the whole time that his side were bat- ting-viz ., five hours and forty minutes in the first , and two hours and a half in thesecond innings .- A tExeter, on Sept. 6, in a match between Rev. J. H. Copleston's XI. and Old Malvernians , four members of the Copleston family played, two on each side , whotook all the wickets that fell . As W. J. Wippell w a srunoutbya combination of E. L. and Rev. J. H. Copleston , the coinci- dencewascomplete .-At Lord's , on M a y22, in a match Lancashire v. M.C.C. andGround, Whitehead, in bowling, lost hold of the ball , which fell a few yardsup the pitch , whereupon Mr. A. N. Hornbyran out to hit it, but White- headreaching it first , threw it to Carlin , who put the wicket down. It was claimed byM.C.C. that the striker hadbyhis action madethe ball in play, and wastherefore out ; but Mr. Hornbycontended that Whitehead had obstructed himandprevented himreaching the ball , and this ruling was accepted by the umpire . In a match played atPort Melbourne , in April ,while the latter team werebatting , the umpire's attention was called to the length of time occupied bya Mr. Beggin going to the wickets , whenthe umpire, satisfied that the two minutes allowed by the law had been exceded , gave Beggout under Rule 45.- Inthe Eton v. Harrowmatch at Lord's , the Etonteamdid not contain a single " old choice ," a unique experience in these matches .-Playing for Totteridge Park School v. HendonTown, on June 18, at Totteridge , Williams scored 27 out of 28 for seven wickets ; the other run was an extra .--For Shirley House School , Blackheath , against Hornbrook House, Chislehurst , on July 19, C. J. Burnup (aged14) andS. D. C. Robertson (aged 13) scored 116 not out and 79 respec- tively . D. Auld(aged 12) took seven wickets for 4 runs.-Playing for Derby- shire v. Notts , at Derby, on July 28, W. Chatterton was dismissed for "handling the ball ." H e played the ball on to his body, where it lodged /momentarily, and as he appeared to remove it with his hands, the umpire when appealed to gave him out .-Barlow's feat of carrying his bat through the innings for Lancashire v. Notts , onAug. 28, was his fiftieth performance of this cha- racter .-In three successive matches, on Aug. 6 (for South Saxons v. Hastings Rovers), Aug. 15 (for Kensington v. South Saxons), andAug. 25 (South Saxons v. Crystal Palace), Rev. J. C. Crawford carried his bat through the innings , scoring 101 , 76, and 101 respectively . In the completed match Notts v. Sussex , atBrighton, on June9, 10, 11 , four Nottingham players were never called upon to bat.-A. M. D. du Pré, in a match at Pocklington GrammarSchool , on July 19, caught no fewer than eight menat point . A L o n gDistancefor the Bail. Inamatchat North Park (S.
