Atkinson (30.31 ), Captain for the second time ; as skipper ofthe teamhas shown excellent judgment, both in the field and at the practice nets , handles the eleven well , and never fails to set a good example in every particular ; plays an excellent straight bat, andcan makerunsagainst any bowling ona good wicket ; bowls avery good length medium-paced ball with a little break back, and can field anywhere . *A. Blackwood (14.6 ): As abat wasunfortunate early onin the season but improved very muchlater ; has a neat style , and plays straight and hard on the ball ; is at the top of the bowling averages , and has proved invaluable onseveral occasions : keeps a good length with a little natural curl from leg ,but has an awkward habit of bowling no-balls ; very safe catch . R. Kriekenbeek (11.26 ): Avery steady bat as a rule , though inclined to step in front of his wicket in playing back; hadanun- precedented runof bad luck in the middle of the term which materially reduced his average ; fields very well at cover -point , where he picks up and returns smartly ; has at times proved destructive with " grubs ." C. Ames (21.1) : Oneof the most improved bats of the team, and the freest run -getter ; hits very hard , especially over the bowler's head ; an excellent field in the country where he has made some very good catches . F. Atkinson (17.27 ) : Avery pains- taking batwith a strong defence ; can keep up his end whenwanted and makeruns when opportunity offers , but is sometimes tempted to hit across a straight ball ; wants energy in the field . C. Snell (14.45 ) : An unconventional bat, but now and then a very useful one ; hits hardat everything ; a very good natural bowler of mediumpace ,keeps anexcellent length on his day; slack in the field . *W. Le Rossignol (23.16 ) : His performances as a batsman this season have been almost unprecedented ; without the slightest previous indication he turned out one ofthe most stylish batsmen of the eleven ; his weak point is hitting across a straight ball onthe leg stump , but if allowed to stay for a few overs is very hard to dislodge ; bowls well inpractice with break both ways , but unsuccessful in matches ; not brilliant in the field ,but
