Wells : A cricketer of very great ability ; as a bowler he is full of resource , varying both pace and pitch with great judgment, andbreakinga great deal bothways; his great c o m m a n dovertheball, andadmirable fielding ,madehimavery dangerous opponent ; as a bat he has shown excel- lent form. S o m eof his inningshavebeenrather marredbya little recklessness at first , but, once settled down, he displays great power both in defence and attack ,his leg-play anddriving being particularly good. C. Wells : Wasnot successful with the bat this season , owing to ill- health ; cuts very well and canhit hard on the off -side , but is far too inclined to hit across at straight balls when first going in ; took the wickets throughout the season , and proved very useful to slow bowlers . *E. R. Edwards : Bowls left hand, mediumpace ,but is very uncertain , not having sufficient control of pitch , and seldom varying his pace ; a good, steady bat, and greatly improved since last year; brought off several fine catches at mid-off , but his ground
