Campbell : Owingto his personal success has madean excellent captain , with, however, a decided fondness for his own bowling ; a really brilliant bat, with fine strokes to all parts of the field , especially in the " pulls " ; has played some grand innings ; an effective but erratic bowler, with at times a nasty break-back ; a brilliant field . *A. N. Fleming : The bowler of the eleven , but often unsuccessful owing to bad fielding ; has steady commandof the ball , high delivery , and good judgment in varying pace and pitch ; the success of the eleven is in a great measure due to him; disappointing as a bat. E. P. Thomson : Has not improved much on his last year's form, though he is a thoroughly sound bat ; not strong enough to be effective ; an excellent leg-hitter ; a neat field . *J. N. Normand: Has fallen off latterly , and has throughout spoilt his average bybadjudgment between the wickets ; has a strong defence, and effective strokes on the leg side ; has been of use as a bowler ; slow in the field . *J. H. Hall : A good bat, especially at a pinch ; plays backwith great safety ; not sound in his forward play, except on the on- side ; a poor scorer ; a vigorous field . *W. M Carver : A nunsound bat, regu- larly playing across in his forward strokes ; is weakon his off-stump; has a good stroke behind point ; a goodfield . C. F. Marshall : Owingto absence , hasnothadmuchchance of improving ; plays across ; should makemore of his exceptional hitting powers ; a good field . M. Berkley : A very fair bowler, withsomebreakboth ways and lots of spin ; has not been tried enough ; should be good next year ; a poor bat, though improved in defence : a good catch . *C. C. Potts : A better bat than he appears on paper ; has played some good innings in homematches ; cuts square most effectively , and at times shows a stubborn defence ; has a fatal knack of dropping catches . J. A. Grant : With more experience would makea good bat ; plucky and free , but lacks defence ; Might have bowled oftener with advantage . *G. F. Ziegler : Sometimes kept wicket well , but varied ; should be good some day; no bat at present . L O R E T T O S C H O O L . Captain for 1890 , S. Gedge. Resultsof M a t c h e s.
