McLaren: Afirst -rate fast- bowler, as his analysis of 101 wickets at an average cost of 5 runs each shows ; h ehasdone somevery smart things at slip , where he is very safe ; andhe has improved in batting *G. C. Drake: A good bat, with a free style , very fair defence , and good punishing powers ; a very good out-field . J. S. McCall : A very hardhitter whenhe goes in for hitting , andhas at times been of great ser- vice ; butheseems to have forgotten his former powers of defence ; good field , anduseful change wicket -keeper . *H. M. Harbord : Has improved in batting andplayed a steady innings occasionally , but is a very slow scorer : a fair out- field . F. de L. Solbé : Areally first -class bat the better the bowling the better heplays ; a smart cover -point , anda most successful underhand bowler, using his head well . I. Stewart : Has been very disappointing as a bat this year ; he has only once or twice played up to expectations , though his style is very good ; a fair , though uncertain , field at point . A. F. Nepean : Wouldbe a good wicket-keeper if he would learn to stand up, as he would help the bowlers so much; has improved considerably in batting . D. G. Kennard : Agood bowler , w h oimproved as the season advanced ; a very fair bat, and plays in goodstyle . F.D. Porteous : Ahard and clean hitter , but he mustpractice defence : a hard- workingfield .
