M o r d a u n t: H a sb e e na nexcellent captain , showed a little falling off this year, but played some good innings ; has all the makings of a first -class player , hits hard all round, but still a little weak on the on side ; first -rate field anywhere , especially at short slip ; fair change bowler . *E. B. Macnaghten : Hasnot been able to give as muchtime to practice as could havebeen wished ; has been very useful to the eleven as abat, buthaslost his bowling this year ; moderate field . *E. W. Denny : Has been unlucky as a bowler, but still very useful ; more successful as a change bowler, and should not try to bowltoo fast ; muchimproved as a bat ; poor field . *R. W. Fox : Apromising wicket -keeper , should keep cooler and not snatch at the ball ; improved asa bat . R. A. Birley : Began the season well , but was not able to give enough time to practice ; hits very hard all round , especially to leg ; good slow bowler , but has not got enough command over the ball ; fine field any- where. *H. F. Browell : Finebat; was in excellent form before he left at the beginning of the season ; excellent field in the country . M. D. Wood: Has become a fine bat , playing very hard all round , but must not pull short ones before he is well set ; should be very good next year , if he can give enough time to practice ; useful fast bowler , and fine field in the country . *E. P. Beard : Hasbeen very useful as a fast bowler , coming off when most wanted , but still rather erratic ; very fine hitter and magnificent field anywhere . D. H. Blundell : Very steady bat with good late cut ; has been invaluable to the eleven ; when stronger should be very good ; fair field at point . *L. J. Carter : Fair left -hand bowler , but rather erratic ; should bowl more on the off side ; good field and hard hitter . *G. L. Tragett : Fair slow bowler , curling a good deal in the air ; has not enough command over the ball ; good field and hard hitter , especially to leg . G. H. Lyon : Good steady bat ; must learn to play back with a straight bat ; should be very useful next year ; very slow in the field .
