Raikes : Asound bat, playing straight andhard, with a slashing leg -hit , and cutting finely if somewhathigh, is apt to reach too far forward ; a very fair wicket-keep ; he has been tolerably successful with the ball , should simplify his action andnot try too much; has been an able , energetic , and influential captain , on andoff the field . R. T. Fitzhugh : Pains- taking andsteady, his defence will be weak while he turns round to face the bowler as he plays ; a smart field and fair change bowler, who might improve muchwithsteady practice . *F. S. Keysell : Has been of great service to his side and consistently maderuns, having a fine forward drive both sides , and a useful pull, is deficient in cutting and back play ; a fair straight bowler, with deceptive action , easily disheartened whenhit ; has improved in the field . T. Burrough : Akeencricketer , with a good knowledge of the game, watches the ball very carefully , but should makemore use of his height , open his shoulders to hit , avoid poking through the slips and on the leg side , and keep his bat straight ; atoler- able wicket -keep and good slip ; stoops too much when he bowls , and has not comeup to expectation therein . *A. C. Havers : Shows a deal of pretty cricket , buthis defence is weakened bya tendency to draw out of the line of the ball whenplaying back; a good field , and useful slow bowler on a sticky wicket , who wants to learn to vary pace and length by practice . *A. C. Heurtley : Plays hard andwell whenset , but does not seem to sight the ball at all whenhe first goes in, has little back play ; has fielded finely at " cover," but is an uncertain catch . *F. King: Has a good notion of cutting and driving , but spoils his chances by getting l.b.w. , and does not make the most of his height ; a good point , sometimes brilliant . *C. Cooper : Has an unattractive style , but showed very fair defence early in the season , which he has weakenedlatterly by wantof patience ; a fairly straight bowler , with a queer action ; an indifferent field . W .Ruston : Afair medium-paced bowler , hard to score off , but too short , should practice steadily , and improve pitch and pace ; can hit , and will improve at once , if he can get steady on his feet ; atolerably safe field . *P. Prince ; Hits hard and clean;has little defence ; a painstaking field , and though stil slow and uncertain , much improved . F. Edwards : Plays straight , andcancut, but wants strength ; amedium bowler , difficult at times , with an easy , simple action , that promises great things whenhe has gained strength , if he will practice ; a slow but fairly safe field.agan.
