Latham: H a smaintainedhis enthusiasm for the gamethroughout the season , and set the school an admirable example ; has played somevery fine innings , and scored very consistently ; still weakon the leg-side , andis apt to fall to a catch at the wicket or at short -slip ; his bowling has been effective , but expensive ; a fine field at cover -point . *L. B. Corbett : Hasplayed a few good innings , but has not maintained his last year's form ; still plays very straight , but very often does not present the full face of the bat to the ball ; a good field at short mid-on. H. S. Pike : With the exception of two very sound innings , has been disappointing ; has a pretty cut and leg -stroke , and is stronger on the off -stump ; has not done so muchwith his slow bowling as was expected , owing to his having increased his pace ; an excellent field in the country, with an accurate return . T. B. Rhodes : Has suffered a good deal from a series of injuries , and so has not retained the form he showed at the beginning of the term ; has not conquered his old temptation to pull a ball on the leg-stump, and has often paid the penalty ; a fine field in the country . H. K. Foster : Played one fine " century " and several other good innings , but has not donem u c hsince his health broke d o w nin the middle of the term; has a very taking style , and, whenset , plays a strong game all round his wicket ; bowledwell in House matches, and has madesome excellent catches at short- slip . W. E. Copleston : Has been singularly unsuccessful as a bowler , though heis almost the best in the eleven ; varies his pace well and gets a lot of spin on the ball ; has shown better form with the bat of late , but has not proved as valuable as was expected . W. L. Foster : His average has probably suffered from havinggone in first throughout the term ; if he played straight , especially on the off -side , he would be sure to be a very dangerous bat, as he has a good eye, and lots of style and nerve ; does not cover enough ground in the field . G. A. Mitchell : Bowled extremely well at the beginning of the season , but has not beenof muchservice since he strained his side ; can send downa very good "yorker ," but has not enough command over the ball to be consistently success- ful ; has lots of batting in him, but is too fond of playing forward , and has not madeso manyruns as he ought. F. W. Romney: Hasthe making of a fine bat ; watches the ball well and plays very straight , but at present does not play hard enough ; we look for great things from him next year , also for some improvement in his fielding , which at present is very slow . W. W. Lowe : A very promising bowler ; has a high , free delivery , and can send down a very deceptive " head" ball ; he must practice hard all the year round ; ought to havemademoreruns, as he plays straight and has some hard strokes ; a very fair ground field . C. H. Ransome : If he were not so terribly nervous wouldbe amost useful cricketer ; has lots of batting in him, but is almost helpless for the first few overs ; is a fair change bowler and an excellent field , and has taken the wickets lately with fair success . *W. P. Godwin : Has not fulfilled the promise he gave behind the wickets earlier in the season ; has done well at times , but is , as a rule , very expensive in the matter of byes , and not to be trusted for a " run -out ; " might have made a useful bat if he had been content to play a steady game,
