Hallward (Captain for 1891 ) : A steady bat ; plays in pretty style , though weak on his leg -stump and lacking power; a good field ; winner of the average bat. *N. Locke : Hits hard if allowedto survive the first over ; erratic as a bowler; sometimesbrilliant in the field . E. A. Elgee : Slow bowler, with considerable commandof the ball, though apt to get short if hit ; as a batsman has plenty of confidence , and should makeruns next season ; leaves room for improvement in the field . C. W. Whitaker : Bowls slow left -hand, with good commandof pace and pitch . *F. A. Simpson : Apunishing batsman, scoring at a great pace off loose bowling ; covers a lot of ground in the out-field , and throws in well. J. B. Wood: Fair change bowler on a fast wicket ; has batted well occasionally ; has done some very good things in the field . *P. J. Finch : A careful bat, with good style , but lacking energy ; a poor field . E. O. Foster : Promising bat ; as a rule fields well. J. E. De S.
