Gosling (Captain ) : Absent during the season ; his loss wasthe morefelt as he wasthe onlyold choice remainingfromlast year's eleven . R. C. Norman: Discharged the duties of captain with energy , discre- tion, and success , and was rewarded by turning out a very fair eleven . Very useful and vigorous field ; painstaking batsman , though at times he lost his wicket for no apparent reason . A. R. Hoare: A n invaluable memberof the eleven ; resolute batsman, much improved both in defence and hit ; useful medium-paced bowler, very difficult at times ; quite first -rate field . G. R. Brewis: Amost consistent batsman ; has a strong , if rather awkward, defence , and rose to the occasion at critical moments; a hard-working, though not bril- liant field . D. H. Forbes : The bowler of the eleven ; fast , with a complicated , awkwardaction , and a long run, yet very fairly straight , andnot soon tired ; has a good " yorker " ; rash bat. F. C. Pilkington : A hard-hitting bat, with fair defence ; lost his wicket frequently from over -eagerness to score ; quick and useful in the field . R. A. Studd: Amost promising batsman; has a very sound defence , and, with increasing strength , should be first -rate ; neat field , and shows some promise as a slow bowler. H. A. Cooper : A rough-and-ready cricketer , useful in all departments ; hits well, bowls a good over or two, can field andthrow in well. A. H. Dickinson : Kept wicket for the eleven fairly well, though not a professional ; has a very good style of batting , but is handi- cappedbyindifferent sight . J. A. Crocker : Ayoung and promising cricketer , full of life and energy ; he should do well in all departments of the gamenext year. V. R. Hoare: A fine field , useful bowler at times , and promising bat. H.A.Arkwright : Neat field at short -slip ; change bowler, though not a very successful one ; a better bat than his average would suggest . F. C. France- Hayhurst (12th man) : A fine natural hitter , and quick field . H A I L E Y B U R Y C O L L E G E . Captain for 1890 , R. W. C. Fisher . Resultsof M a t c h e s.
