Thesiger (Captain ) : Bats in very good style , and , when set , plays sound cricket ,hitting well all round ; rather fallen off in bowling this year . R. G. L. Austin ': Much improved this season , and has scored consistently ; a free , hard -hitting bat, being particularly strong on the off , but showed in the Marlborough match that he is capable of playing a steady defensive game at a pinch ; a good field . J. B. Campbell : Avery steady , painstaking bat , with good forward play ; very successful in the earlier part of the season . *H. C. Nelson : A useful bat , with good defence and strong off- drive ; rather stiff in style ; did good service with the ball . E. N. Brooke ; A very good , free bat , his hitting being particularly clean ; makes some very good strokes on the off side , but should watch the good length off balls more. A. G. McPherson : Much above the average as wicket -keeper , being safe and quick ; can bat well in practice , but did not come off in matches ; too fond of playing backwhenhe first goes in. J. M. Quinton : The best bowler in the X I.; fast right -hand with leg break , varying his pace well ; most successful on a fast wicket ; his bowling in the first innings of the Marlborough match was pheno- menal ; improved as a bat . *C. H. Harington : Not able to play muchtill late inthe season ; a very good bat , with great reach , of which he makes good use ; plays best against fast bowling ; a good point . C. B. Champain : Promising cricketer ; bats in good form, but is rather wanting in strength at present ; has been fairly successful as a bowler -slow medium . A. S. Anton : A fair bat , but wants power . A. H. Holdship : Bowls slow medium with leg break , but without sufficient command of pitch ; fair bat . 1 1
