Youngbowledtwono-balls. BRIGHTON ELEVEN IN 1890.-A. J. Meissner (Captain ) : bowled (left- hand, medium) with more patience than luck throughout the season ; if, as captain , he hadattached more importance from the first to the fielding of his team, his analysis as well as that of the other bowlers , would have read better ; bats , right -handed, in a style of his ownwhich is occasionally effective ; a sure , though not active field . R. Young : With an excellent clean -hitting style and plenty of powerhas, through wantof nerve, terribly disappointed expectation ; a sometimes brilliant , sometimes uncertain field ; can bowl a goodball now and then. W. H. Picton : The steadiest bat in the team; has sound defence , and, though he has not much power, times the ball beautifully in hitting ; it is apity he is not a better field . H. H. Jupp : Has developed into a clever slow bowler, with plenty of break andvariety ; is a brilliant field , and would soon becomea fine bat if he would give up jumping about and trying to cut or leg- hit every ball . S. W. S. Collings : A careful bat with not muchpower but a good eye, hits well to leg ; a sure and active fielder . P. M. Cooper : A stiff but steady bat , slow in the field but plucky . H. deW. Willett : A small but promising batsman with a straight defence , and smart in the field . H. R. Fort : Asimple but generally successful change bowler (left -hand medium), poor bat, never likely to makeas manyruns as he will lose in the field . B. W. Gonin : H a sa good eye and some power, but at present bats timidly and has not met withgreat success ; can bowl a little and is a resolute and active field . Н. К. Umfreville : Wouldhave been a good bowler if he had not imagined himself to be a fast one, and a fair bat if he had not been persuaded that he was a great hitter ; a plucky but slow fielder . F. W. Worsley : A smart but not sure wicket-keeper, has to learn to take leg balls , uncertain bat. H. J. Smith : Came oninbatting late in the season , and showed both straight defence and consider- able hitting power, but is a poor field . C H E L T E N H A M C O L L E G E . Captain for 1890 , Hon. W.
