T H EU N I V E R S I T I E SA N DP U B L I CS C H O O L S. 1 4 3 anda fair wicket-keeper . * C. E. Nicholl : Fell off in bowling, but rather im- proved his batting . His " short " sight made him an uncertain field . *C. C. Barnes : A nice free bat , but too anxious to begin hitting at once ; lacked "defence ; " a hard-working deep field , but not a safe catch , nor a straight thrower -in. *G. F. Warren: Agood mediumleft -hand bowler on his day, the safest field in the team in any position ; disappointing as a bat, for , though possessing a good style , he seldom made runs, being weak on the off side . R. B.Reiss : A nerratic fast -mediumbowler , with a good " yorker ; " did not take enough trouble with his batting ; a moderate field . A. D. Higgins : Showed good batting form, spoilt by a habit of " facing " the short balls ; a neat point . T. G. Scott : A painstaking but weakbat, with a long reach, but often over- reaching himself in playing forward , and never driving hard on the off side ; a very fair catch and deep field ; should improve as he gains strength . L. W. Reynolds : Played in very nice style , though his size was against him ; im- proved as a bowler towards the end of the season . *S. C. Atkey: Astraight , if very ugly, bat; putting some power into his strokes ; a goodfield, and a moderate slow bowler . *H. W . Fife : Amoderate bat with no style , but some little hitting powers ; a poor bowler and field . W. E. Tyndale : Acorrect , but rather weakbat; a hard-working safe field . S. V. Shea : W a srapidly im- proving both in wicket -keeping and in batting -especially the latter -whenan unfortunate accident to his hand stopped his further play during the term ; ought to be of use next season.
