T H ECOUNTIESIN 1890. 8 7 beyondthe powers of the Australians , and they could only get 114. Ferris (29) a n dBarrett (24) played steady cricket . The one redeeming feature of Kent's secondinnings was the brilliant show by Mr. L. A. Hamilton , whose first appearance this was against an Australian team . After A. Hearne (35) had helpedhim make 78 for the first wicket , he continued to hit away until the wholeside was out , eventually taking out his bat for 117. Mr. Hamilton was battingjust over four hours, and gave only one chance. TheAustralians were set the heavy task of getting 237 to win, but after the first two wickets no stand w a smade, and at the close they found themselves in a minority of 108 runs . A tthe finish , Mr. Daffen proved remarkably successful with the ball , taking fourwickets in nine overs at a cost of five runs. Kent145 and 205; total 350. Australians114 and 128; total 242 . (15) K e n tv. Warwickshire. Beckenham, August 14, 15, and 16. O nthe opening day, a long stand by Mr. L. C. Docker (71 ) and Shilton (65), who both played splendid cricket , gave Warwickshire what looked like a winning advantage . The Kentish menplayed up finely , though , thanks to G. G. Hearne (40), Mr. Patterson (38), and Mr. Leslie Wilson (30), and were able to put the midland county in to get 116 runs . Of these , 78 were got for the loss of six batsmen ; but Martin's fine bowling on the third morning settled the matter, and the four last wickets went downfor the addition of 7 runs .
