L A W NT E N N I S , JAMESLILLYWHITE, F R O W D& CO. A Arenowdevoting their careful attention to the manufacture of LawnTennis Goods. For theRacquet they select the choicest ash, which after being bent to shape is then seasoned for along time before being made up, thereby enabling it best to stand the immense strain to whichit is necessarily subjected. J. L. F. & Co. employ the most careful and experienced workmenonly , andcan state fear- lessly that the goods they are nowsupplying will vie with, andinmanyrespects surpass , the bestproductionof anyother maker. A sregards the stringing of Racquets it is nowsometime since J. L. F. & Co. recognized the superiority of the principle of stringing Tennis Racquets more closely than the ordinary type . B yadopting this methodRacquets canbe strung muchtighter than by the old system , a n darealso far less liable to relax, while the strain is better distributed roundthe circum- ference of the hoop. This system of stringing of course adds somewhat to the first cost of the Racquet, as more gut and extra labour are required , but the results obtained well repay the extra cost , and effect a saving in the long run , in addition to producing a muchmore effective Racquet. J. L. F. & Co. have lately introduced into some of their best Racquets an improvement of muchvalue ,consisting of a solid cane, walnut , or other hard-woodhandle spliced into the ash (after the mannerof a cricket bat handle ) and turned to a comfortable pattern with abutton atthe end. Thenet results obtained are (a) a better balanced Racquet ; (b) anexcellent grip ; (c) ahandsomeappearance andfinish . T E N N I SB A L L S . J. L.
