Bats in excellent and thoroughly correct style , a sound and reliable bat, with more freedom than of old, and was generally successful during the season ; played a very fine not out innings against Yorkshire at the Oval, practically winning the match ; a straight medium-pace bowler , at times very effective ; muchimproved in the field .
