Nepean, Captain (19.5): Mustbecongratulated on a very successful season; is agoodbat, especially strong o n theoff andto long-leg ,but he has a weak stroke over short leg's head,andnot unfrequently falls toa slowyorker; beautiful cut anddrive past cover; very goodfield anduseful wicket-keeper. C. F. Bigge (21.2 ): A good bat , with plenty of wrist and safe forward play; has a fine drive past cover, and cuts well ; shines greatly under difficulties , andhasplayed somevery fine , if occasionally over-cautious , innings ; fell off in bowling , and sent in a good manybadballs ; splendid field , with a very safe pair of hands. H. W. Keeling (8.9 ) : Thebest bowler at the school for years ; m e d i u mover, witha wonderfulcurl fromleg,makinghis yorkerveryhardto play; withjudicious varying of his pace andsomeworkonhewill befirst -rate; is agoodbat, a n dscored consistently in practice thoughhefailed in matchesowingto nervousness. B. F. Smith (8.4) : A painstaking cricketer ; rewarded by steady and markedimprovement ; straight , slow-mediumbowler,coming in from the off ; steady and correct bat, playing very prettily to leg,butapt to get in front ; does not pick them up in the field . H. M. Harford (10.5 ) : A useful bat, strong on the on side ,and possessed of a good eye; should play farther forward , keep his right foot still , and practise cutting square ; improved in the field . H.B. Armitage (6.5): Disappointing in the field ; rustic bat,with the left -handers off-drive ; bowls left-hand, with an awe-inspiring action . J. W. Leary (8.9): Very promising , but lacks wrist -play, and heaves instead of hitting ; on several occasions batted very well ; will lose his bowling if he doesnotworkhardat it. J. B. Michell (3.7) : Shouldm a k ea goodbat; plays andhits hard but is somewhat weak on his leg stump; improved in the field , and with hard work will bowl well. T. H. Gibbs (11) : Notso goodinpractice asintheory; attitude andaction stiff ; must get in front of her at mid-off . W. F. Hoare-Ward: Very promising all-round; safe field ; likely bat; anduseful bowler.
