Ensell : Has improved since last year as a bat, butstill lacks confidence ; a poor field . H. M. Harbord : As abat his defence is better ,though hehasnot muchpunishing power ; a good field in the country , with a good return . C. G. Fichardt : Has proved a valuable bat, more especially towards the end of the term; good behindthe wickets , and if he would learn to stand up would be of great assistance to the bowlers. J. S. M'Call: Amoderatebat, andfair field ; hasbowledat times with success; can keep wicket . I. Stewart : A very promising young bat; should make a good point . H. H. H.Hicks (10.2) : Goodbat on the off side , but did not, except on one or two occasions ,play in anything like his form of 1888. E. Hicks (10.2) : Most effective left -handbowler , with break bothways; occasionally very useful with the bat, but his eye-sight hampers him. A. Gray (10.2): Good field and useful bat. A. Hunt(9.4): Asplendid little bat; if only hewere taller wouldmakea name. R. Buckwell (7.1 ) : Effective fast bowler , but would be better if he studied pitch more; a good and promising bat. H. Monsell (8.6) : Only played a few times , and managedtohit up a few runs , but no defence ; fair slow bowler ; good field . H. Cobb (5.5); Really the most promising cricketer in the team, both with the bat and the ball , but was un- fortunate . E. A. Bond(5.3) : Effective left -handed bat,butspoiled his runs by nervousness ; can bowl a little ; slovenly field . W. Fuller (4.3 ) : disappointing bat; can do very well at times ; wanting in nerve . H.F. S a m m a n: Slowbowler with a puzzlingdelivery ; hasprovedmosteffective on someoccasions ; an ugly bat, but gets runs. N. de B. Griffith : Agood steady bat with strong defence ,but should learn to punish loose bowling ; safe catch . F. A.
