C. P. Copland (27.7 ): Batted more steadily than in 1888 ; has a good eye, andhits well ; fair change bowler , but poor field . H. S. Parker (24.2 ) : Bowled very consis- tently throughout the season; batsin good style, andcuts beautifully ,butwantsmorelife ; fair field (captain for 1890). C. H. Wharton(16.18 ): Made one good score ,but did not maintain theformh e showedthe previous season; fair field , but mustlearn to catch. H .C. Stuart (12.7): Does not take the trouble tobat properly ; hits too wildly ; good bowler,but hardly so straight as last season. S. J. Rammell(11.6): Verypatient andsteadybat; fair defence, but lacks power; good field . C. H. Roe (10.6 ): Good medium-pace left -handbowler , and a very promisingbat; if hewill take pains, andlearntofield , will turnouta really goodanduseful cricketer . *A. Bredin (10.5) Goodfield ; weakdefence , but hits well . *H. B. Milsime (10) : Plays with a straight bat, but not muchdefence ; kept wicket very fairly . *F. Jones (10.8 ): Avery good fast bowler, and has done great service this year; can bat fairly ; slack in the field . T. R. Browne, Captain (24.11 ): W a smoreenergetic thanhad beenexpected ,andset a good example of hard work; possibly the weight of responsibility had something to do with the falling off in his batting ; he certainly did not fulfil the expectations of his friends , ashehad agood style , andwaspowerful inforward play; should have taken the post of wicket -keeper from the first in preference to fielding at long -leg , as, however useful he might be at the latter place , the wicket is aharder post to fill and undoubtedly the best place for a school captain . W. J. Cates (14.8 ) : If the captain did not fulfil the expectations of his friends as abat,this player kept himcompanyas a bowler; a wet wicket , with somesuccess in a nearly match, induced a most pernicious change of style inhis bowling ,which lasted long enough tospoil his analysis andhis usefulness totheteam; hisbatting, too, fell off,buthehadstill thesameloose,free movement,whichwill someday, if he practices , bear fruit in alarge crop of runs; wegladly welcome a very decided
