Lushington (35.9): A most energetic and hard-working captain ; has brought the team through a fairly successful season, being invaluable both asabat andbowler; hits hardandclean, andpos- sesses a strong defence ,though still weak on the leg-side ; a destructive fast bowler onhis day; abrilliant and accurate field anywhere ; safe catch . R. A. Greig (11.6 ) : Oneof the straightest batsinthe team; wants, however, to study defence m u c hmore, as at present hehasonly one stroke, the straight drive; bowledeffectively at times, but attemptedfar too m u c h, and,in con- sequence ,became erratic ; good field as a rule ,but inclined to be lazy . A. C. Stratton (12.4 ): Adisappointing bat; obtaining his colours too early , he changed his style completely , andlost all h eh a dlearnt ; a safe catch in the" country," but very slow andunwieldyon the ground balls . H. R. Hebert (14) : Avery steady bowler , keeping his pitch splendidly , far more effective o nafast wicket thanona slow; h a dthemakingof a first -rate bat, butwasalwaystoo anxious to score, andlost his headw h e ngoing in tobat; avery smartfield , thoughnot alwaysreliable . R. A. Blunt (14.8): A hard hitter , scoring very fast whenset ,but is too rash at first ; has a very ugly stroke off his leg-stump, which, unless cured , will always prove fatal ; a very fair wicket -keeper , though a bit slow . H. Francis (9.9) : Very disappointing the latter half of the season, owingmainlyto abadarm; looked like makinga lot of runsabout the middle of the season, butwasrendered quite useless bya strain ; a brilliant field till knockedup, thoughnever able to cover ground. C. W. Talbot(13) : A moderatebat, with quite his o w npeculiar style ; hasa very effective forward cut,but is always beaten byawell -pitched -upball onthe leg-stump; avery safe field and catch ,holding the fielding cup for the year; can take the " gloves " well w h e needed. J. B. C h a p m a n(13.6) : Fell off very m u c hat first , owingto his anxiety toplay forward to everything ,but got into very good form towards the end, and scored consistently ; wantsa lot of coaching to teachh i mto playwith thefull face of thebat; very goodfield at point. P. J. Robertson(10.6): Hits too m u c htobea goodbat, andshould cultivate a more elegant modeof standing , being so cramped up that he cannot play straight ; an effective slow bowler, andat timesdoingsomegoodperformances; fairfield. N. Francis (16.7) : Improved his batting towards the end of the season , but has not quite got rid of his " chopping " style whenplaying back; is fairly straight in his forward play, but is not confident enough ; poor field . F. H. Medhurst (12.8 ): Fairly steady bat , with a strong cut, but no other stroke ,making all his runs there ; fearfully slow between the sticks , and a wretched field . W .N. Lushington P. J.
