James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1890

1 4 8 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' ANNUAL. bowler. *G. F. H. Berkeley : Has done a great deal for the eleven by his bowling ; should pay more attention to the placing of his fields ; steady and sometimes very useful bat. *E. C. Mordaunt : The most useful m a nin the eleven , and will be muchmissed ; a fine bat, with good defence ; plays forward very hard, and hits with great freedom ; a very useful bowler, and fine field anywhere. G. J. Mordaunt: Amost promising player ; bats in fine form, and with great confidence ; but at the beginning of the season a little too free ; has played some very fine innings ; first -rate field at short -slip ; captain next year. E. B. Macnaghten : Has been of the greatest use to the eleven as a bat, having played some very good innings , his forward play and hitting to leg being especially good; fair change bowler ; rather too slow in the field . E. W . Denny: A useful addition to the eleven as a bowler , often getting wickets when nobody else could ; poor bat, and slow field ; should improve in batting if he could get rid of his one great fault . R. W. Fox: Has kept wicket very well , standing up well to most bowling ; rather too fond of stopping balls with his pads; poor bat. *P. L. Brownell : Very disappointing as a bat ; good out-field , *G. A. Godley : Fair bat, has a good stroke on the off -side ; fair change bowler, and good field . R. A. Birley : Disappointing as a bat; hits well to leg ; we hope to see himplay in his true form next year ; good field in the " country " ; canbowl. H. F. Browell : Small but sound. bat ; did not play in manymatches , but fully justified his place in the eleven ; good field in the slips . W E S T M I N S T E R C H O O L , Captain for 1889 , F. Street .
