Hatt : Bats in a good style , and can hit well ; improved in defence ; was unfortunately away for several matches , when his absence was much felt ; moderate field and bowler . E. E. Bryant : Asteady , useful bat , with good defence , but lacks punishing power ; fair wicket -keep , and slow bowler. M. O'C. Tandy: Improved in style since last year, though still inclined to play back too much; can hit hard on the off -side ; a quick field and sure catch ; captain for 1890. H. Lovegrove : A slow and painstaking bat, often a long time at the wickets for his runs ; quite out of form at the beginning of last season , but improved as the wicket got faster ; fair change bowler, andgood field . R. S. H. Baiss : Bats in a neat style , and shows promise ; has an excellent defence , and when his strength and hitting powers increase should be very useful ; uncertain field . G. E. Timins : Too short -sighted to make a good cricketer , but bats fairly , and can hit well at times ; a first -rate field at point . S. Kennington : A good all -round cricketer , and likely to be very useful next year ; has improved in style and defence ; excellent field , and effective change bowler. J. M. Marshall : Left -hand fast bowler, with a slight break from the off , which he should try to increase ; likely to do well if he does not overbowl himself , and can acquire more commandof pitch ; good field ; poor bat. E. Н. Luckham: Bats in a free style , and can score fast whenset , but has not enough defence ; bowls mediumpace; a fine field , and made some splendid catches . S. de C. O'Grady: Right-hand fast bowler, without any break ; keeps well on the wicket, and bowls a fair length ; should learn to vary both pace and pitch ; bats in a style of his own. G .T. Watson : With practice m a ymakea fair wicket -keep ; moderate bat. 1 1
