Miles : Has hardly bowled up to the promise of last season ; muchimproved in batting , showing on more than one occasion good defence ; a safe field , but not neat ; has been an energetic and useful captain , having his team well in hand. *R. S. Nicholson : Asound bat, deficient in cutting , and without much punishing power ; he has been most valuable to his side both as batsman and as bowler, having fair commandover theball , andvarying pace ; a good field . *G. Castley : Has improved in defence and got steadier ; can hit andcut, and is formidable to loose or over -pitched bowling; at times bowled really well , getting a gooddeal of workon the ball ; a good field . * C. G. Wilson : Has good defence , and cuts well ; forward play is straight without strength ; fields correctly , but wants dash and energy . G. B. Raikes : Has excellent style , and is very straight , but he wants power, and does not time the bowling well ; a fair wicket -keep. *A. W. Pryce -Jones : Wants patience and steadiness to give him more defence ; hits well and confidently when set ; a good field ; has not bowled much. *H. C. Whinfield : Has plenty of nerve and knowledge of the game; a difficult wicket to capture ; an excellent eye partlytly atones for a crooked bat and a wrong position at the wicket ; an uncer- tain field , occasionally brilliant . *A. Arkle : A powerful bat and fast scorer ; leg-hitting good; he should take pains to improve his forward play , andm a y makea formidable bat ; slow in the field ; a tolerable wicket-keep. *J. В. Kitson : Is nervous , awkward, and unsteady for several overs , but canhit well andnicely , and score fast whenset ; does not play enough at the ball ; an energetic field . *H. Graham: Has not muchstyle or defence , and is apt to tumble forward to the ball ; a fair field without smartness . *E. Mason: A pretty bat, but feeble and ineffective ; possibly plays at the pitch ; bowls too short , with a good ball nowand then ; a safe field . T O N B R I D G E S C H O O L . Captain for 1889 , C.
