Howard (Trevelyan ) : Areally promising bat , especially strong in the off -side , with good and straight back defence ; has with fair success cultivated slow round-arm bowling, and whenhe gains more com- mandover pitch and break ought to be good; a sound field , especially far out. *L. R. T. Frere (Trevelyan ) : Energetic bat, with strong forward play , but rather too fond of trying to " place " hits ; a fair and plucky wicket -keep, and promises to make a good one. R. W. C. Fisher (Bartle -Frere) : Captain for 1890 ; plays sound cricket , with good back stroke ; his forward play wouldbe improved by his more carefully timing the stroke and not losing so muchof his height: height ; an excellent point . *C. G. Hill (Batten ) : Afair bat , but rather rough ; a capital and dashing field , with quick return . C. O. Bennett (Melvill ) : Has a goodpair of wrists , and cuts excellently , and always plays with good nerve ; a very clean and quick field , and safe catch . *F. E. G. Longe (Thomason) : Has not hadmuchchance of trying his powers, but shows the making of a very fair bat, and is a clean hitter on the off -side ; a good field . *P. B.
