Hodges : A really good, steady bat, with excellent defence and judgment; watches the ball and cuts well ; bowls lobs with occasional success . *W. A. Baker : Mediumleft -hand bowler , at times difficult ; varies his pace, and can makethe ball curl in the air ; not suffi- ciently accurate in pitch ; as a bat has little style , but hits hard. *E. M. Young: Fast right -hand bowler, at times effective on fast ground, but has not beenable to play muchthis year; improved as a bat. Hon. W. Thesiger : Has the making of a very good bat, but has had little success this year ; can play good sound cricket , in good form , but is apt to play tamely in a match ; a useful mediumbowler, with high action and good length ; very fair field . J. B. Cock- burn : Avery fair bat andquick scorer , rather too anxious for ahit , andhas often lost his wicket by trying to pull a straight one ; smart field at cover . R. G. Austin : Very fair bat, but not very correct in style ; improved in defence , but generally plays a free game, and punishes loose bowling ; a good field and catch . A . C. Thomson: Fast bowler , with high delivery ; bumpsa good deal on hard ground; has little defence , but hits hard if allowed to remain in. R. Simson : Useful , steady bat, with stubborn defence , but little power of punishing ; moderate wicket-keeper . H. Nelson : Promising all -round cricketer ; bats in neat style , but wants strength ; should be useful another year ; straight medium bowler, and fair field . T. Campbell : Promising bat; plays in good form, and with a straight bat; fields well at point . P. Oswald: Steady bat, with good defence , and canhit ; has not muchstyle , anddoes not use his wrists ; slow in the field ; bowls slow left with occasional success . A. J. Hall : Has played some useful innings ; hits hard on the on-side , but has not muchdefence ; a poor field . A. G.
