Butler (Harrow and Trinity ) : Avery useful bat, likely to get runs at a pinch ; a really brilliant field . E. Crawley (Harrowand Trinity ): A good , steady bat, with extraordinary patience , and capital field . C. P. Foley (Eto( nand Trinity ): Adangerous bat, scoring well all round ; apt to be lazy in the field . F. G. J. Ford (Repton and King's ), the captain , managed his team capitally at Lord's ; a spendid hitter , especially against fast bowling ; good, medium-pace, left -hand bowler , and fine field anywhere . R. C. Gosling (Eton and Trinity ) : One of the soundest bats in the eleven ; in fact , up to the present time , undefeated by the Oxford bowlers ; agood andhard-working field . H. Hale (Trinity ) : Afair bat , and useful slow bowler ; sometimes getting a lot of break on the ball ; rather uncertain field . E. R. de Little (Jesus) : Athoroughly useful cricketer ; fast , right -hand bowler, with a lot of spin ; awkward bat to get rid of, and good field . G. McGregor (Upping- h a mandJesus) : A splendid wicket -keeper ; taking Wood'sexpresses magnifi- cently ; moderate bat. H. J. Mordaunt (Eton and King's ) : Good bat, with a fine free style ; very strong on the off -side ; played a splendid innings against Oxford; good ,, medium-pace, right-hand bowler ; poor field . F. Thomas (Etonand Trinity ) : Did not play much in the early part of the season ; very dangerous bat on a fast wicket ; good field . S. M. J. Woods (Brighton and Jesus) : Last but not least ; a splendid cricketer ; very fine , fast , right -hand bowler ; fields magnificently anywhere ; adangerous bat ; one of the keenest of the keen ; Captain for 1890.
