James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1890
P R E F A C E . INCREASING years entail increasing responsibilities . Nearly twenty winters have passed since the ANNUAL solicited the suffrages of cricketers . Andif it is true that imitation is sincerest flattery , then the promoters have beyond a doubt good reason to be pleased with their work. Each succeeding year has brought a new accession of well -wishers , not confined to any particular class or district , but repre- sentative of every section of the great race over which King Willow wields such beneficent sway. The dominion of cricket is one on whichthe sun never sets . Its boundaries are without limit , as the newground the ANNUALhas had to cover year after year has fully shown. To those who have helped to enlarge its scope the best thanks of all whodesire the development of the gameare due. The active assistanceof cricketersof all classes h a sm a d ethew o r kof the con- ductors of the ANNUAL much lighter than it would otherwise have been . A continuance of this sympathy they confidently solicit . Any suggestions which may tend to improve its character or make its contents more complète will be gladly received .
