A good fast bowler, has a high delivery , and is very dangerous w h e nthe wicket helps ; was generally very successful ; on several occasions proved of use, too, as a bat; uncertain in the field . Bats in excellent and thoroughly correct style , a sound and reliable bat, with more freedom than of old ; a straight medium-pace bowler, at times very effective ; much improved in the field . A good medium-pace bowler , with considerable break from the off ; can bat well whenhe likes ; wantsto improve in the field ; unable to play last year owing to illness . One of the very best all -round cricketers of the day; a reliable bowler on all wickets , with plenty of work, varies his pace and pitch with judgment; a very dangerous bat at times , with plenty of hit , always reliable at a pinch ; a brilliant field anywhere, but was particularly suc- cessful at short -slip , where he made a number of wonderful catches .
