Good bat, and fast run- getter ; slow in the field . POWELL, E. O. (Charterhouse and Cambridge ). Auseful all -round cricketer ; has good defence , and canhit hard ; a good field . SEYMOUR, C. R. (Oxford ). Asteady bat ; good on a fast wicket ; not a reliable field. STEELE, D. A. Fair bat, and fast bowler ; splendid field . WALLACE, Colonel . Agood bat whenset ; is still a brilliant field . WATSON, A. L. (Winchester and Oxford ). A good bat, possessing great patience and strong defence ; a fair field . FORSTER, H. W. (Eton and Oxford). Plays for Hants. K E N T . CHRISTOPHERSON , S. (Uppingham). Moderate bat, with good hitting powers ; bowls fast round, andoncertain wickets sure to be successful . Fox, C. J. M. (Westminster ). Agreat acquisition to the County; batted well throughout , and generally scored well ; watches the ball , andcan hit freely whenset ; a useful change bowler, and safe field . HARRIS, Lord (Eton and Oxford). One of the best judges of the game; a fine bat, playing in excellent style , and hitting with great freedom ; played but little last season owing to Parliamentary duties . KEMP, М. С. (Harrowand Oxford). A good bat, and first -class wicket -keeper ; played only in the later County matches . MARCHANT, F. (Eton and Cambridge ) . A good bat and field ; showed much improved form as a bat, and on several occasions scored well, hitting in brilliant style . PATTERSON , W. H. (Harrow and Oxford ). Almost , if not quite , the most careful and painstaking bat of the day; good field ; can bowla little ; was again of the greatest assistance to the County. THORNTON, Rev. R. T. (Oxford ) . Bats in peculiar form , but a difficult wicket toget; goodfield ; did not play muchfor the County last season . TONGE, J. N. (Cheltenham ). A careful bat, with good defence ; good field , a n dusefulb o w l e r. WILSON, Rev. C. (Tonbridge and Cambridge ). Fine bat , playing very hard on theball ; played but little last season . WILSON, L. A useful all-round cricketer ; a good bat, and fine field . RASHLEIGH, W . (Oxford ). Plays for Kent. L A N C A S H I R E . ECCLES, J. An invaluable addition to the County ; an excellent bat, and good field ; was one of the best amateur batsmen in England; played for Gentle- m e nagainst Australians. ECCLESH. (Uppingham). Agood bat, andexcellent field . HILDYARD, L. D. (Oxford University ). A good bat , and capital field at point .. It is to be regretted that he cannot find time to assist his County. HORNBY, A. N. (Harrow). Is still as energetic and painstaking as ever ; hit well onseveral important occasions , though not so successful on the whole as could be wished ; proved himself an invaluable captain . JOWETT, G. Agood bat, plays in good form; sure field . KEMBLE, A. T. (Cheltenham ). Agood bat, and capital wicket -keeper . LANCASHIRE , O. P. (Rossall and Cambridge ). A keen and hard -working cricketer ; plays in good form, and drives well to the off ; goodfield ; played! little last year. 1 6
