A good bat, but hardly played up to his promise of the previous season ; evidently did not relish the wet wickets . BURRELL, H. J. E. (Charterhouse and Oxford). Amost promising player ; bats in excellent style , and is a very fair right -hand medium bowler , and good field ; should be an acquisition to his 'Varsity next season . DRUCE, G. A very careful and correct bat, and fair field ; played for the Countyin the latter matches, and promises to be of good assistance to them nextseason. FOWLER, HOWARD(Clifton and Oxford). A tremendous hitter , but unfortu- nately for his County is seldom able to play. FRANCIS, H. Another big smiter , and free bat; one of the best fields of the day; playedbutlittle last season. GREEN, C. E. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). In his day a fine punishing bat, andgood field ; athorough judge of the game, and the mainstay of Essex cricket. O W E N, H. G. Quite kept up his reputation as a sound and careful batsman ; wasof the greatest service to the County, as his excellent average testifies . READ, J. J. (Malvern ). A splendid free bat,but unfortunately was unable to givem u c htime to first -class cricket last season. R O W E, F. E. (Marlborough ). A good sound bat, and good field ; was of great service to the Countyin the latter matches. SEWELL, R. P. Has plenty of cricket in him, and with a little more patience wouldmakea first -class bat ; a very fine field , anda most promising bowler if hewouldonly persevere in this department . BUXTON, C. D.
