Thefigures showing the respective performances of the leading amateurs and professionals as a consequence are generally more favourable than usual-in some cases very much above the average . Special attention maybe called to the doings of Lohmann, Peel, and Briggs , though altogether the statistics will repay perusal . The three professionals named were the only bowlers w h owere credited with over a hundred wickets . They were, too, the three best bowlers of the year beyond a doubt. Lohmannhas the distinction of being the only cricketer able to claim that he took over two hundred wickets . A swill be seen , he delivered altogether 1650 overs for an average of just under eleven runs a wicket . Considering the work he had to do his figures must be accounted most extraordinary . Curiously Peel bowled exactly one over less , but he was much more costly . Briggs was throughout most successful ; altogether he has certainly no superior at the present time .
