Jardine (Capt.) : A brilliant all -round cricketer ; the most effective bowler (fast right ) in the XI., having a tendency to curl in the air , and being difficult to see ; quick and safe in the field ; cuts beautifully , and places judiciously to leg ; showed great judgment as captain . G .T. Campbell : Is a really good bat, though he has done his best to spoil him- self by loose hitting in practice ; quick and safe in the field , and can bowl if wanted. T. E. Bayley : Has played careful innings , often coming off when mostwanted; good defence , both forward andback; not a strong hitter ; as a bowler (right medium) occasionally effective . R. Todd : A pretty bat on a fast wicket ; as a field should pick up more cleanly . A. R. Kay: Good defence against fast bowling , playing forward on a fast ground most effectively ; slow in the field . A. N. Fleming : The most promising bowler (slow left ) in the XI. ; excellent delivery andnatural break back with great steadiness ; with increased strength ought to be really good ; a weakbat, without energy to correct staring faults . G. H. Normand : Does not usually play forward in a straight line towards thebowler, bringing his bat fromoff to leg ; plays back well ; the best leg -hitter in the X I., and can hit to the off ; a fair field . W. N. Boase : Mediumright , has bowled steadily throughout , and with his high delivery will bedangerous whenhe has got morecontrol over the ball . H. T. Methuen : A plucky bat, generally playing his best in a match; plays straight , but is too stiff inhis wrists to hit well ; quick andsafe cover -point. C. F. Marshall : Hits very fairly , and has quite respectable back play , but his bat in almost every forward stroke goes from off to leg ; quick in the field . W. M. Landale : Has a fair defence against balls onhis wicket andleg-side , very weak at off balls ; a good field. L O R E T T O S C H O O L . Captain for 1888, F. E. Woodhead. Resultso f M a t c h e s.
