Wood (Capt .) : Has good style , cuts finely , and drives well to the off ; has a tendency to jump forward , which materially weakens his defence ; fields well , with plenty of dash and smartness ; a somewhaterratic fast bowler ; he has fulfilled all his duties as captain admirably . *H. A. Rhodes : Has improved much; has fair defence , andhits well to leg ; has not muchforward play, and cannot cut ; an extremely useful wicket -keep. *R. S. Nicholson : Showed good defence early in the season ; less successful on wet wickets , being weak on the off -side ; a fair bowler , slow or medium, getting some work on the ball ; an uncertain field . J. C. Miles : At times a difficult bowler ; fairly straight , but apt to get short ; as a batsman does not seem to sight the ball ; not a very good field , but has improved ; captain for 1889. *F. J. Kittermaster : Auseful change bowler, who mayimprove ; soon tires ; a stiff bat , with little defence ; slow in the field , but plucky . T. G. Castley : Hits hard and scores fast on a dry wicket ; wants patience and steadiness , is apt to draw out of the line of the ball , and never looks safe ; a fair medium-paced bowler, coming back a little ; a fair field . *C. G. Wilson : A patient , correct bat, with taking off -strokes and cutting ; wants strength anddash ; a safe , unflinching , but rather slow, field ; can bowl a little . G. H. Raikes : Plays very straight , and has been useful ; gives promise of batting
