MALVERNELEVENIN 1888. *H. R. Sedgwick : O n one or two occasions has played good cricket ; plays very flukily till set , when he hits hard and well ; a capital field at cover-point , and has taken the wickets fairly successfully , though expensive in the matter of byes ; bad judge of a run. *H. H. Hansard : Thebest bat in the eleven , though he never makes more than fifty ; plays with a very straight bat, and has improved in his leg strokes ; a first -rate field in the country ; with more experience he ought to makehis mark. *H. S. Ainslie : W a sunable to play till late in the season ; hits freely , but is uncertain , and does not makeas muchuse of his reach as he ought ; a goodpoint . *R. M. Harvey: Wasvery successful at the beginning of the season , but fell off as the wickets got slower ; always keen and full of energy in the field . *C. G. Wotherspoon : Hasat times bowledvery successfully , and has improved since last year ; bowls faster andwith more commandover the ball ; has at times proved useful in knocking up a few runs at the end of the innings , but has not improved in form asmuchas he ought to have done. *H. Malins : Has proved most serviceable with the ball and done several good performances , as his analysis will show; played one good innings , but has not scored so consistently as he ought to have done, mainly because he does not play with a straight bat. P. H. Latham: Has comeon a great deal since last year, and played some very sound cricket ; is still weakonhis leg stump and on his leg side generally ; muchimproved as a field , and is a very fair change bowler . A. Harding : Has had a lot of hard workto do, and done it very creditably ; he bowls very steadily , keeps a good length , and gets a fair amountof spin on; has been kept ontoo long at a time very often ; has not sufficient self -confidence as bat, and could be muchbetter thanhe thinks . *F. H. Morris : Avery plucky and improving wicket -keep ; disappointing as a bat, thoughhe has several good strokes , especially on the on- side and in front of cover -point ; always plays the game. L. B. Corbett : Very promising , and ought to prove of great service when he gets stronger ; plays very straight , and has good defence , but ought to make more runs on the leg- side ; an excellent field near the wickets . *P. G. Reynolds : Plays very straight and watches the ball well , but has not much punishing power ; poor field .
