Cheales : Fell off considerably in his batting this year ; a good field at third man, having a quick return , which often proved fatal to the batsman ; bowled well at beginning of the term. W. J. F. Giffard : Agoodhard-hitting batsman, especially strong on the off side ; a sure catch in the out field . C. E. Gilroy : Very fair left -hand bat, with great punishing powers ; bowled very well early in season , but seemed gradually to lose his pitch ; a very safe catch in the country . *W. E. Greaves : A very patient bats- m a n, scoring slowly , but often giving the bowlers great trouble to dismiss him ; a fair field at point . R. B. Hoare : A thorough cricketer at all points , and well deserved the success he met with v. Eton ; bats in a nice free style ; a good slow bowler, and capital field ; one of the excellent trio that remain at Harrow for next year . F. S. Jackson (Capt. 1889) : Thebest all -round m a nin the eleven , andhad the chief share in winning the match at Lord's , where he bowled (fast right) capitally ; has a fine taking style inbatting , and is a splendid field any- where. *J. A. Maclaren ( Capt.) : Adangerous bat, driving very hard both to the off and on ; a fair change bowler, and good reliable field ; the good all- round cricket shown at Lord's was very largely owing to his energy and determination . *N. Ramsay: Hasfallen off rather in his bowling since last year, rarely seeming to get the right length ; would be a good field if he took any trouble ; poor bat. *H. D. Watson : Has been somewhat unlucky as a bat this season , but played a capital innings at Lord's whenit wasbadly wanted; slow in the field ; bowls lobs at a pinch . *G. W. Roffey : Avery fair bat, playing several not-out innings in school matches ; moderate wicket -keeper ; kept very well v. Eton . A. C. Maclaren : Agood , steady bat , with very taking style ; was unlucky last season , and ought to do good service next ; a capital field at mid-off ; bowls a little . L A N C I N G C O L L E G E .
