CLIFTON ELEVEN IN 1888. *H. N. Wethered : Bowls rather fast , with high action , and gets some break on the ball ; was not so successful as last year , but got wickets when others failed ; much improved in batting ; a fair field . W. H. Brain : Played some useful innings , but is not strong in defence and must be more careful in practice , if he is to become so ; gave up wicket -keeping owing to an injured hand ; fielded well . B. F. Hanson : Bats in good style , playing forward and hitting well on a fast wicket ; he should try to improve his back play, which is weak; agood , sometimes a brilliant , field . B. W. Bradford : Bowledmore consistently than any one else in the eleven ; he bowls left -handed (medium pace ), and the ball sometimes comes very quickly off the ground ; he is avery steady , correct bat, and good field . *J. C. Orr : Uses his head a good deal in bowling , but was too inaccurate in pitch to be often successful ; spoilt
