Cooper (Capt.) : Muchthe most reliable bat in the team, his defence being straight and careful , while his hitting power hasgreatly increased ; in the absence of any first -class bowler, he also came to thefront with the ball , securing most of his wickets bycommandof pitch rather than of break ; fielded excellently . H. D. L. Woods (Hon. Sec .) : A splendid hitter , but without the patience to make a really good bat; brilliant in the field , and a very useful fast bowler. T. A. Chalmers : Apowerful but rugged bat; in the field wonderfully good at short -slip ; his bowling , of which so much wasexpected , he lost altogether , owing to a strain from which he never seemed entirely to recover . E. L. Copleston : Avery good bat on a fast wicket , but at present fails to adapt his style to a slow one ; good change bowler ; a safe , but somewhat slow ,field . L. H. Gay: Ajerky bat , inclined to slash at every ball , andwith little or no notion of defence ; behind the sticks was always useful , and sometimes really brilliant . R. Young: Bats steadily and straight , but without m u c hpower, and has a bad leg -stroke ; fields fairly well, and can bowl a little . A. D. Heward: Bats in excellent style , and with a very straight defence , but is not strong enough to be very effective ; a safe andhard-working field , though somewhatslow. H. N. Blakeney : A stiff but plucky bat, and a dashing field ; liable , however, to makebad mistakes nowand then . H. C. Holland : Promises to be a very good bowler, but at present is inclined to think too muchof pace ; apoor bat, and uncertain field . A. Meissner : Apromising young player , pos- sessing a capital eye and considerable power for his age ; bowls left hand, with a good action , and a puzzling break . A. L. King: A plucky but uncertain bat ; fielded excellently , andcanbowl a little . C H A R T E R H O U S E S C H O O L . Captain for 1888 , E. C. Streatfeild . Results of Matches.
