Dale (Captain ) : A very fair all-round cricketer , though not so good as wehadonce hoped; did not play so straight a bat as in the days whenhe scored less ; bowled with a good deal of judgment and success . *H. A. Tapsfield (Secretary ) : Anexceedingly good bat, who, from wantof confidence , has rarely done himself justice ; on a soft wicket is a very puzzling bowler, but has not enough commandof pitch to be dangerous on a goodone. W . B. Jenyns : Acapital out-field , who has saved any numberof runs; did not have his '87 luck with the bat, partly no doubt through the slow ground; butwefancy that his uppish hits on the off side would be far less frequent if he stood closer to his bat, and so got over the ball more. E. E. Lea: Most unfortunately for the eleven , was able to play but little ; when well , a good fast bowler with considerable break ; a very steady bat, from w h o mweexpect much next year . G. M. T. Smyth : The most promising cricketer we have had for some time ; plays a beautiful straight bat , and has first -rate defence ; more hit
