Cochrane (Repton and Hertford ) : Agood fast left -handed bowler , comingboth ways ; moderate field andbat. A.C. M . Croome (Wellington and Magdalen) : A useful all -round man; slow right- handedbowler, getting a lot of workon the ball , but pitch is irregular ; good field , and fair bat. H. W. Forster (Eton and N e w) : A good bat, and bowls well, slow left -hand; first -rate field , and wonderfully safe catch . G . Fowler (Clifton and Oriel ) : A fast right -handed bowler, makes the ball get up ; good field ; a tolerable bat. F. H. Gresson (Winchester and Oriel ) : A dangerous left -handed batsman, hitting well all round ; moderate field , and can bowl a little . E. A. Nepean (Sherborne and University ) : A good, steady bat ; slow bowler, with great curl from leg ; very useful m a non a hard wicket ; not a sure field . H. Philipson (Eton and N e w) : A first -rate wicket -keeper , especially quick at stumping ; dangerous bat ; captain for 1889. W. Rashleigh (Tonbridge andBrasenose) : Agood, steady bat ; played very well against the Australians at Oxford ; painstaking field ; took a great deal of trouble as captain . Lord G. Scott (Eton and Christ Church) : A fine , dashing bat whenin form ; quick and active field . E. T. B. Simpson (Harrowand Pembroke) : A very steady bat, with marvellous patience ; fielded well at point till the University match. H o n. F.
