Crawley (Harrow) : Didnot keep up his reputation of 1887 ; the slow wickets were muchagainst him; first -rate field . G. Kemp (Shrewsbury ) : Bats in beautiful style , having a very good cut stroke ; capital field . F. Thomas (Eton) : Only played in a few matches; good field , and can bowl lobs . F. M. Butler (Harrow) : A hard- working cricketer all round, and of great use to the eleven . C. D. Buxton (Harrow) : Very popular as captain , and a good one ; bats in good style ; fair change bowler , and Al field anywhere . S. M. J. Woods (Brighton ) : Very fast , high -actioned bowler , and most dangerous on a bumpy wicket ; the mudwickets weremuchagainst him; capital field , and fair batsman, with plenty of nerve ; played for the Australians in their representative matches . R. C. Gosling (Eton) : Goodsound batsmanof the Eton style , and will probably improve , as he always plays the game, and possesses plenty of nerve . F. G. J. Ford (Repton ) : A goodbowler on a sticky wicket , getting up very quick from the pitch ; a most determined batsmen, and did someremarkable hitting displays ; must stir him- self up in the field ; captain for 1889. F. Meyrick -Jones (Marlborough ) : A hard-hitting batsman, and very useful on the slow wickets ; goodfield . G. McGregor (Uppingham) : A capital wicket-keeper , stood up to the fast bowlingmost pluckily ; a very fair bat, and might go in a little earlier with advantage.
